About Aurora and Phillip

Princess Aurora and Prince Philip are the couple in Disney's 1959 film, Sleeping Beauty.

The Prince and Princess are betrothed from birth, an effort by their fathers Kings Hubert and Stephen to unite their kingdoms. At Aurora's birth, the three good fairies - Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather - bestow gifts of beauty and song on the new princess; however before Merryweather can give Aurora her gift, Maleficent (an evil sorceress) curses the baby to "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die." Merryweather amends the curse to sleep, only to be awakened by the princess's true love's kiss. In hopes of preventing the curse from coming true, King Stephen sends Princess Aurora to live in the forest with the three good fairies. The fairies rename the baby Briar Rose.

Fast forward 16 years. Briar Rose is out picking berries for her "mothers." Prince Philip is riding his horse through the same forest when he hears Briar Rose singing. The two fall in love at first sight, not knowing the true identity of the other. Briar Rose invites the "stranger" back to the woodcutter's cottage later that night to meet her three 'mothers.'

Upon Briar Rose's return to the cottage, the three good fairies surprise her with a cake and dress for her 16th birthday. They also reveal to her that she is not Briar Rose, but really Princess Aurora, and that she may never see her beautiful stranger again. That night, the three good fairies return Princess Aurora to King Stephen's castle. When they leave her alone, Maleficent strikes and Aurora falls into an enchanted slumber.

When Prince Philip shows up at the woodcutter's cottage, Maleficent is there and take him hostage. Back at the Castle, the three good fairies put the castle's inhabitants to sleep to await Princess Aurora's awakening. As King Hubert falls asleep, he mentions to King Stephen about the beautiful stranger Prince Philip met in the woods. This is overheard by the fairies and they rush off to rescue Prince Philip from Maleficent.

Prince Philip is rescued and rushes off to King Stephen's castle. He kills Maleficent and awakens Princess Aurora with True Love's Kiss. They join their families and the court in the main hall and dance into happily ever after.
